A Deep Dive into Our Accessibility Living Suite
Home Healthsmith was created to improve people’s lives by providing custom solutions to meet your unique accessibility needs.
To that end, we’re excited to welcome you to our state-of-the-art Accessibility Living Suite in Portsmouth, Rhode Island!
Why We Built the Accessibility Living Suite
We designed the Accessibility Living Suite because we believe it’s important to have a destination where both you and your loved ones can come to demo, touch, and personally experience our mobility products.
It’s a place where you can be informed and inspired, and learn more about products and services that will:
- Enhance your freedom
- Enable you to age in place
- Benefit your aging parents
- Provide needed assistance for a disabled family member
What’s in the Accessibility Living Suite
Home Healthsmith has always believed that a safe and functional home delivers freedom with added mobility and confidence. We offer free assessment services for whatever you may need, be it a ramp, grab bars, an elevator, or something else. We also understand it’s important that mobility products shouldn’t feel “institutional.” Rather, they should look more like natural accessories to furniture, while still delivering the functional mobility you desire.
We specialize in design build for residential elevators. In fact, Home Healthsmith is a top-five dealer for the Inclinator Company of America for the fifth year in a row! We installed a working residential elevator in our Accessibility Living Suite to demonstrate the many cab options, along with various metal finishes, accordion gates, and other upgrades.
Besides the elevator, some of the great mobility products you can demo and experience for yourself in our Accessibility Living Suite include:
- Stairlifts
- Vertical platform lifts
- Ceiling lifts
- Stander products
- Grab bars
Meet Some of Our Accessibility Living Suite Partners
You can also take a virtual tour of our state-of-the-art facility, where one of the first people you’ll meet is Peter Cardi. Peter talks about how pleased Cardi’s Furniture and Mattresses is to be a partner with Home Healthsmith in allowing everyone to enjoy all the comforts of home with greater mobility and safety. He then demonstrates one of their chairs in our Accessibility Living Suite. The chair provides lift assistance that helps users easily get in and out of the chair.
Next, you’ll meet Ron Cardi, also of Cardi’s Furniture and Mattresses. Ron says the setup we’ve created in our Home Healthsmith showroom is phenomenal! He then shows us some of the high-low beds available from Cardi’s. Not only do they provide needed lift assistance for easier accessibility, but they also come in all conventional sizes. You choose the size and fit that best suits your style and needs.
Then you’ll see Mike Duckett of Home Mobility Pros. They’re a full-service general contractor specializing in home accessibility. Their team partnered with Home Healthsmith to create a fully accessible bathroom demo that showcases many great features. In the virtual tour, Mike shows us a barrier-free shower (a specialty of Home Mobility Pros) that is designed flush with the bathroom floor, so there are no obstacles for access by walker and wheelchair alike. The shower also provides ample room for caretakers to maneuver whenever assisting their clients.
Finally, you’ll meet Prudent Stoddard, Director of Design at RIKB Design Build. She shows us around the accessible kitchen demo, pointing out how it’s designed to help anyone in a wheelchair be able to take full advantage of whatever they want to do in the kitchen.
Home Healthsmith offers many options for home accessibility, and we invite you to call today to schedule a free assessment or visit us for a complete tour of our facility. We look forward to seeing you!

We’d love to have you schedule a visit to tour our Portsmouth facility and see the Accessibility Living Suite for yourself. We’d be happy to meet with you, your architect, and/or builder to discuss your project plans and ideas. If you’re located in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, or Connecticut, one of our trained experts would be glad to come out to your property and conduct a SafeHome Audit for you.
Our SafeHome Audit includes taking the time to identify safety and accessibility opportunities in every room of your home, and then we’ll sit down with you to discuss all of your best options. We can also provide you with a free estimate for any installations or upgrades we identify.
And if you choose to partner with us for installation, you’ll have peace of mind knowing our team of professionals will take good care of you. Our vetted installation process is designed to make everything as smooth and painless as possible, and we’ll even make return visits to ensure everything is working for you properly.
